Marvin is seeking a strategic and business-oriented Employment Law Attorney to join our legal team!
This role provides sound and practical legal advice, develops and reviews policies, and works within a matrixed organization to partner with our HR professionals and other business partners across the Marvin enterprise.
Advice & Counseling
• Serve as the employment attorney for Marvin, providing day-to-day advice on a broad range of employment issues, including HR practices, performance management, terminations, hiring, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, leaves and accommodations, immigration, and labor relations.
• Support and advise leadership and Human Resources across the enterprise on all areas of employment law and related company policies, including FMLA, -ADA, FLSA, Title VII and other laws prohibiting discrimination. Participate in and influence the decision-making process with appropriate clients and stakeholders.
• Identify and assess legal risks and opportunities within the employment area and advise accordingly. Independently handle legal matters and projects ranging from basic to complex. Recognize when the advice of more senior counsel or outside counsel is appropriate. Ensure
that appropriate clients and stakeholders are involved in the decision-making process.
Litigation & Agency Matters
• Manage employment litigation and pre-litigation disputes; act as primary liaison outside counsel, including strategy development, stakeholder coordination, budgets, and resolution.
• Manage and respond to agency charges (e.g., EEOC claims.)
Contracts & Documents
• Draft and negotiate employment law documents, including non-compete agreements, separation agreements, settlement agreements, and similar.
• Review employment- and benefits-related contracts, partnering with other stakeholders as appropriate.
Policies, Training & Compliance
• Develop and deliver HR compliance trainings. Advance the skills and knowledge of our human resources partners.
• Collaborate with Legal team and human resources partners in policy and proceduredevelopment, as well as improving existing policies and processes, to facilitate compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Investigations
• Conduct and/or advise on complex investigations.
• Solid judgment, models integrity and exemplary respect for others.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and succinctly with internal clients.
• Appropriately prioritize workload, meet prescribed deadlines, and follow through on matters handled.
• Spot issues and offer effective, practical and appropriate business and legal solutions.
• Establish and maintain relationships, credibility and trust with clients, stakeholders, legal team members, and other colleagues.
• Willingness to travel periodically to locations within the United States
• J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and admission to the Bar
• Minimum of 4- 7 years of experience in Employment Law
• Experience in counseling corporate clients on employment matters
