Job Overview

Buyer is responsible to supply production with purchased material to fabricate and assemble windows and doors.  It is their responsibility to obtain the appropriate quantity of goods in a professional, reliable and responsive manner at the appropriate negotiated price while meeting quality, schedule and performance requirements specified by the Marvin Companies.  In addition, Buyer will be responsible for analyzing costs and making purchasing recommendations and decisions.

Highlights of your role

  • Meet the needs of Production by ensuring a continuous supply of quality materials in a cost effective manner. This includes prompt resolution of any quality, delivery, and supplier relationship issues at the root-cause level to ensure materials maintain a ship-to-use status.
  • Manage cost and inventory levels (modifiers and pricing) of assigned material. Maintain and manage inventory turns, manage obsolescence, prepare outage reports and manage aged inventory. Responsible for cost reductions, inventory levels and opportunity for lot size adjustments.
  • Maintain strong, mutually beneficial supplier relationships on quality, pricing, delivery and all other terms of business, ensuring partnerships meet the short and long term goals of both Marvin companies and its suppliers.
  • Provide customers service on quote requests, analyze data on bids, and recommend buying options, sampling and other information requests for internal customers in a timely manner, utilizing prompt and effective communication and follow through. Work with transportation and suppliers for backhauling or shipping material. Work with Accounting Department to reconcile invoices and other accounting related needs.
  • Reduce costs, improve processes and grow profitability by managing material ramp-up and run-down strategies, including part number establishment/transition and appropriate stocking levels. Regularly monitor the performance of each supplier. Anticipate supply chain risks and develop contingencies as appropriate.

You're a good fit if you have (or if you can)

  • Two or four-year business related degree is preferred
  • Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Prior Purchasing experience or knowledge of MRP is preferred
  • Knowledge of, or experience with Marvin product is ideal
