Job Overview

The Safety & Health Manager will provide leadership and direction for all logistics site safety and health programs. This role is responsible for developing, communicating, and leading the deployment of policies, programs, and strategies based on Marvin’s values-based principles. The manager will lead all aspects of Safety & Health in collaboration with the Transportation Safety Compliance Manager. These duties will be performed at a designated Marvin location, with the role reporting to the Director of Logistics through the Operations structure.

Highlights of your role

  • Ideate, develop, and lead site-specific Safety & Health programs and ensure adherence to enterprise policies, programs, and procedures, at a minimum
  • Be responsible for ensuring full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety, health and transportation regulations or requirements.
  • Act as primary contact to support technologies and software systems used to ensure safety and DOT compliance.
  • Build and maintain logistics specific safety training and compliance
  • Audit and track safety compliance at all distribution centers and loading docks.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Safety & Health on leading S&H initiatives
  • Ensure enterprise policies and programs regarding safety are compliant at a site level and administered regarding federal, state, and local regulations and company requirements.
  • Develop and update rules, regulations and operating procedures minimizing exposures to identified safety hazards and risks
  • Participate in cross-facility Safety & Health audits to ensure maximum performance and adherence to policy and procedure consistently across the enterprise
  • Develop and implement, in coordination with other leaders, a strategic annual goal setting plan for eliminating injuries and accidents through proactive risk identification and mitigation
  • Monitor, analyze and report Safety and Health data for trends and areas of concern
  • Act as primary lead on acquiring or maintaining OSHA VPP Star compliance
  • Stay on top of Safety legislative/regulatory changes that may influence business functions
  • Champion the establishment of effective investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions designed to improve Safety and drive to a culture predicated on injury prevention
  • Lead OSHA, VPP, DOT and employee health and wellness, as well as other training needs and improvement programs
  • Participate in annual professional development in addition to the required education/training expectations for this position
  • Handle operational reporting of safety and DOT metrics.

You're a good fit if you have (or if you can)

  • Subject matter expertise in OSHA and DOT standards related to Logistics transportation and/or Distribution Centers
  • Shown understanding of other government/professional organizations such as Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), NIOSH, NRC, ASSP NFPA, CSA and the National Safety Council
  • Ability to analyze and provide solutions from Marvin safety data sources (e.g., incident collection software, audit software, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and digital literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong verbal presentation and facilitation skills
  • Ability to influence partners
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with employees, leadership, and regulatory personnel
  • Understanding of Worker’s Compensation and Return to Work process
  • Ability to travel (20% per year)
  • Ability to frequently stand and walk around facility

Also want to make sure you have

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in safety related role(s) with growing levels of responsibility
  • Environmental and Health experience a plus
  • Experience in Safety and Health leadership roles in a Transportation, Distribution Center or manufacturing environment preferred
  • OSHA Voluntary Protection Program experience preferred
  • Currently hold or willingness to acquire additional education, safety certifications, and designations required. Designations include but not limited to: BCSP ASP and/or CSP, NSC Advanced Safety Certificate, OSHA 30 Hour, Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician Certification (OHST), or Train the trainer designations related to Safety and Health
