Engineering Design Technician I- Research & Development

The Engineering Design Technician I is responsible for supporting product design activities including developing new designs and/or improving upon the performance and design of existing products. Support the Research & Development team by participating in design activities, building prototypes, and testing design concepts. Provide drafting/modeling and document management support. Participate in prototype builds and install windows and doors for testing.

• Design Documentation: Create and track ECN’s (Engineering Change Notices). Create and update/drawings, models and documents using 3D modeling software, Autodesk products, Excel and other Marvin Engineering tools.  Maintain project print planners, create and review drawing redlines, and ensure drawings meet Marvin drafting standards.
• Product Installation and Prototype Support: Build, install and test prototype units and components.  Develop working prototype concepts for feasibility analysis.  Understand installation and test criteria needed to meet fenestration industry product certification test standards.
• Design Activities: Work with Engineers, Designers and other Design Technicians to diagnose product concerns, implement product updates and support the creation of new product design concepts.  Use creativity, and ingenuity and DFM (Design for Manufacture) in product design and development.
• Design for Manufacturing Support: Evaluate and support designs and potential design changes to improve manufacturing process and throughput. 
• Product Knowledge: Become knowledgeable with product components and designs, understanding how design relates to manufacturing, field performance and certification requirements.

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree, or secondary technical training preferred
• Hands-on mechanical skills desired (wood crafts), and working knowledge of tools such as chop saw, table saw, drill press, etc. preferred
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• 3-D CAD Modeling software (Autodesk Inventor is ideal) preferred
• Window and door related experience preferred
• Possess basic knowledge of manufacturing processes
