Job Overview

The Plant Controller will serve as a key business partner for the Operations Management Team in our KC location providing financial directions and recommendations to improve overall financial performance. The Plant Controller is responsible for planning and coordinating the plant budget in alignment with corporate goals.

Highlights of your role

  • Serve as the primary financial business partner to plant leadership, translating financial and operational data into actionable recommendations that improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Prepare and communicate monthly financial results, forecasts, risks, opportunities, and key performance indicators to plant and value-stream leadership.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, including labor, material, overhead, capital, inventory, and productivity assumptions.
  • Maintain the plant’s standard-cost system and analysis of purchase price, material usage, labor, and overhead variances.
  • Partner with operations to identify the root causes of financial and operational performance gaps and develop measurable corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintain reporting for plant performance measures, including cost per unit, labor productivity, scrap, rework, inventory, absorption, spending, and conversion costs.
  • Provide financial analysis for continuous-improvement initiatives, capacity decisions, make-versus-buy evaluations, staffing changes, capital investments, and other plant-level business decisions.
  • Lead inventory accounting and controls, including cycle-count oversight, physical inventory, excess and obsolete inventory analysis, reserves, and inventory valuation.
  • Maintain an effective internal-control environment and ensure compliance with company accounting policies, GAAP, audit requirements, and established approval authorities.
  • Coordinate plant capital planning, prepare financial justification for capital requests, and monitor project spending and realized benefits against approved business cases.
  • Collaborate with corporate finance, shared services, supply chain, engineering, and other business partners to resolve accounting issues and improve financial processes.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate plant financial reporting and accounting processes.
  • Develop financial understanding and accountability among plant leaders by helping them interpret operating results and understand the financial impact of their decisions.
  • Participate in month/year end close process
  • Perform other responsibilities consistent with the scope and level of the position.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with management and peers
  • Knowledge/Experience with Business Intelligence tools

Also want to make sure you have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Cost Accounting experience
  • Experience with comprehensive ERP systems
